BARCC Cell Phone Donation Ride

We just finished (and obviously had the best time ever) our BARCC Cell Phone Donation Ride. The goal: Deliver 25 cell phones collected by Campus Sustainability to the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center. Objective Complete.

426,000 cell phones are decommissioned everyday in the US. You read that right- not year, month, or even week- but EVERY DAY. (Source Gizmodo) Our own SU Campus Sustainability department collected these phones on campus and we were asked to round out the “greening” of hte process by providing bicycle delivery of these phones to their selected destination- the BARCC.

So Jason Graham and I took to the streets with our bags full o’ phones. The BARCC was a short jaunt over the bridge into Cambridge and after a quick stop for iPhone directions to 99 Bishop Allen..

We made it there and were welcomed by the employees of the BARCC.

The BARCC donates working phones, has dead phones recycled, and puts all of of the end products (working phones and/or cash-money) towards their mission of making Boston and surrounding area a better safer place for women.
Thanks to Erica Mattison of Campus Sustainability, the BARCC, and Paul T. for making our Suffolk Bikes shirts. If you or your department needs bike errands run please don’t hesitate to contact us (as long as the weather is as nice as it was today)
The Group Ride Was Sweet- Duh

Does it even need to be said?

If you don’t ride then the nightman wins.

Happy Columbo Day!
I normally have a policy of not trying to clip every bike article from the Internet onto our site- believe me it’s not easy (i love the internet) but today IS a National holiday so I guess I too can take the day off from posting something original.
I just saw this on Gizmodo. Pretty sweet if you ask me. I think the tagline should be- “If your apartment isn’t already way too full of bikes and/or wii peripherals.. wiiBike!”
Hit up giz for the full post- if only for the near perferct article title

SB Poster Series- Poster #2
One time I was in a bike lane and was stopped at a painfully long light next to a stranger. It was just about to that point where you would at least say ‘Hi’ to them but before I could greet him he simply blurted out, “I love riding bikes” I consider this to be the single greatest thing that has ever happened to me in a bike lane.
Who did you meet in a bike lane today?
Suffolk Bikes Posters by C.Antonellis of MassArt
Chris Antonellis of MassArt is a Graphic Design undergrad working on a project for which Suffolk Bikes fit the bill perfectly. The goal- to create an awareness campaign for non-profit org. After Chris helped us out with our website we knew it was truly meant to be.
Here’s the first poster in a series of three. We’ll show you all three posters this week but you’ll have to wait for now! In the meantime-
What class project are you doing that could collaborate with Suffolk Bikes hm?
